‘Ensure Kerala’s share of water’
Water Resources Minister P.J. Joseph has asserted that the State government would not allow violation of the inter-State Parambikulam-Aliyar Project (PAP) agreement.
Talking to The Hindu here on Friday, the Minister said “as per the PAP agreement, Tamil Nadu can take water only after ensuring the Kerala’s share of water to be released during the summer months for irrigation and drinking purposes.”
“Kerala will insist from the next water year, starting June, that Tamil Nadu should draw water from the PAP Agreement only after storing the State’s due share in the Parambikulam group of reservoirs.
The State will also insist that Tamil Nadu should fill the Kerala Sholayar reservoir to its Full Reservoir Level (FRL) on February 1 and September 1 every year for use in the Chalakudy basin as per the PAP Agreement,” Mr. Joseph said.
