SRINAGAR: Security forces on Saturday sealed a mosque here after two militants took shelter inside it in their bid to escape arrest, official sources said. Acting on a tip off about the presence of militants, security forces and police launched a search operation in Tujan village in Budgam district of Central Kashmir this afternoon, the sources said.

Finding themselves trapped, the militants took shelter in a mosque, they said.

The security forces exercised restraint and did not opened fire on the ultras holed up in the mosque, Defence spokesman Lt Col A K Mathur told PTI.

The mosque was sealed from outside and the ultras have been asked to surrender, he said, adding the militants refused to do so. “We are trying to persuade the ultras to come out of the mosque and surrender. Village elders have been sent into the place of worship to persuade the ultras to surrender,” he said. - PTI
