The public sector Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) on Saturday awarded merit scholarships to 146 students and powered wheelchairs to some muscular dystrophy patients to mark the company’s silver jubilee.

Chairman & Managing Director R. P. Singh awarded scholarships of Rs.24,000 each per year to the meritorious students from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The toppers belong mainly to Class XII in various government schools of both States.

The SJVN Foundation also distributed nine high-quality powered wheelchairs to the patients of muscular dystrophy. These were provided through the Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy, a non-government organisation working for people with muscular dystrophy.

Mr. Singh promised full support to the integrated centre for muscular dystrophy, a project envisaged by the Indian Association of Muscular Dystrophy.
