The district administration has decided to widen two stretches — from Godavari Circle to Railway Station Road, and from the circle to Siddeshwar Temple Road — during the first phase of works to be taken up as per the master plan, Deputy Commissioner Shivayogi Kalasad has said.

Presiding over a meeting of elected representatives, officers and the owners of buildings who would be affected, here on Saturday evening, Mr. Kalasad said that these roads would be widened up to 100 feet and pavements would be constructed on both sides. Steps would be taken for beautification of these roads by installing modern streetlights and planting saplings. He said that the officers had prepared an action plan for Rs. 33 crore for the first phase and a plan for Rs. 34 crore for the second phase.

He added that it was estimated that a total of 480 buildings would be affected while widening roads and a proposal seeking compensation for the building owners had been sent to the State Government.

Ramesh Jigjinagi, MP, told the meeting that the officers concerned should make thorough preparations before starting work as there were hundreds of monuments in the district and the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 did not permit any alteration to structures or construction in a 100-m radius from the monuments.
