Following intelligence reports about the possible attacks by Lashkar-e-Taiba, Indian Mujahideen, and other terrorist groups, Superintendent of Police Karthikeya has proposed check-posts at five points in Poosapatirega and Bhogapuram mandals to identify strangers crossing over to the mainland through sea.
The check-posts are likely to be inaugurated at A. Ravi Valasa (Gum City) and Mukkam in Bhogapuram mandal, Konada junction, Perapuram and Lankapallipalem in Poosapatirega mandal on Friday. There are 21 fishermen villages along the 29-km coastline. A marine police station at Chintapalli in Poosapatirega mandal monitors activity along the coast. The Marine PS has an Inspector, Sub-Inspector, three head constables, six constables and nine home guards.
With the recent red alert, the Coast guard has already stepped up its surveillance. Helicopters hovering in the sky have become a common feature since the past one week. Mr. Karthikeya directed Bhogapuram police circle to create awareness among fisher folk and distributed pamphlets with phone numbers of police personnel for contact.
