No decision for now, Centre will buy more time
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday discussed the vexatious Telangana issue here and mulled over how to ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament/the Legislative Assembly and Council during the budget session in view of protests for and against the creation of Telangana.
Informed sources said it was a one-to-one meeting at Dr. Singh’s residence that lasted nearly 20 minutes. There was no official communication about the meeting from either the PMO or the CMO.
Before leaving for Hyderabad in the evening, winding up his two-day visit to the capital, Mr. Reddy also called on Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and additional in-charge of the Congress affairs in A.P. and Union Minister Vayalar Ravi.
The sources said that considering the complexity of the issue, neither the government nor the Congress would go ahead and announce the final decision on the statehood demand and would buy more time on the pretext of continuing the consultation process, and this might go on till the end of the budget session of Parliament.
