: Failure to implement a law on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) would result in the loss of Kerala’s rich traditional knowledge, said V.D. Satheesan, MLA.

He was speaking after inaugurating a two-day national workshop on ‘Role of Intellectual Property Rights in the Knowledge Era’, jointly conducted by Kerala Academy Law College and the Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment, here, on Friday.

Mr. Satheesan said products that have geographical indications tags such as Balaramapuram handlooms, Pokkali rice, and Aranmula mirror need to be protected. He called for the inclusion of IPRs as a main subject in universities in Kerala.
