The State-owned Kerala Tourism Development Corporation Hotels and Resorts (KTDC) will get a new Managing Director (MD) as the government has decided to shift N. Prashant from the post on his request following differences with KTDC chairman Vijayan Thomas. Mr. Prashant, who also holds the charge of Deputy Excise Commissioner and Additional Director, Employment and Training, will be replaced soon as the Cabinet has given the nod for shifting him from the KTDC. Official sources said Director of Tourism S. Harikishore would hold the additional charge of the MD till a new person is posted.
Mr. Prashant sought shifting from the KTDC following differences over awarding of the contract for catering at the Raindrops Business Hotel, Chennai, without following the procedures. The contract was tendered twice and the move was to award the contract without completing the tender formalities. An emergency board meeting this week decided to go as per the procedures in awarding the contract. Mr. Prashant had put in the request for shifting as there was tremendous pressure for awarding the contract despite the decisions taken in the board.
The Managing Director also earned the wrath of the Chairman recently after he insisted that concessions cannot be granted in the food bill and hall rent incurred by Chandramathi, an accused in the Total 4 U case. She had taken a hall at the Mascot Convention Centre for organising a function and had to pay the balance amount after the MD took a tough stand.
