Freedom fighter and former Minister Konda Laxman Bapuji called off his indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi in support of the demand for statehood to Telangana on the seventh day on Monday.
Speaking to media persons, he said he would continue the agitation in different forms till Telangana statehood was achieved. He called upon the leaders of the region to set aside their political affiliations and join together to take up the single point agenda of achieving Telangana State.
He wanted the youth who were upset with the delay in formation of Telangana State not to end their lives for the cause. The 97-year-old leader, who had quit his Minister post for the cause of Telangana in 1969, asked them, instead, to agitate with the conviction of “achieving self-rule”.
He said that he would convene a goodwill meeting with elected representatives of all parties on November 13 and a day-long ‘satyagraha' near Parliament on November 22. A meeting with freedom fighters on November 10 and ‘satyagrahas' in all 10 districts in Telangana during the winter session of Parliament were also being planned, he stated.
