Fervour marked the Koil Alwar Thirumanjanam festival performed on Tuesday at the hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara.

The periodical festival is performed as a prelude to the four important festivals observed at the hill shrine which includes Ugadi, Anivara Asthanam, Vaikunta Ekadasi and the annual Brahmotsavams.

Over 400 employees led by TTD Chariman K. Bapiraju and Executive Officer M.G. Gopal took part in the cleansing festival that lasted more than five hours.

The main deity was roofed with a water-proof covering and all the idols were removed from the sanctum sanctorum. The entire sanctum sanctorum was then thoroughly pumped with water and smeared with a herbal paste containing high quality sandalwood powder, refined turmeric, camphor, saffron, vermillion and other ingredients which act as disinfectant.

The religious exercise was also followed at all other sub-temples inside the temple complex. Soon after the completion of the religious formalities, the idols were replaced and the idol of the main deity was unveiled.
