Two activists of the Kabir Kala Manch (KKM) — Sheetal Sathe and Sachin Mali — who staged a ‘satyagraha’ outside the Maharashtra Assembly on Tuesday were sent to custody by a Mazagaon court on Wednesday following their arrest by the Mumbai police.

Mali was sent to police custody till April 10 and Sathe to judicial custody till April 17, their counsel Mihir Desai said.

Both the activists, accompanied by political leaders and activists of the KKM defence committee, had staged the ‘satyagraha’ protesting against police accusing them under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The KKM is a group of Dalit poets and singers who have been accused by police of having links with, and being, Naxals.
