NEW DELHI: Kishore Chandra S. Deo of the Congress has replaced Pawan Kumar Bansal as chairman of the parliamentary committee probing irregularities in implementation of the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee accepted his resignation and nominated Mr. Deo after consulting Leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee. .
Official sources said the Congress MP from Chandigarh felt that he could not do justice to the job, after allegations were made that he had given Rs. 5 lakh to the Chandigarh Golf Club from MPLADS funds. He described the allegations as "baseless."
Mr. Bansal also chaired the five-member panel, which recommended the expulsion of MPs caught on camera in the cash-for-questions sting operation.
