NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha, on Wednesday, expressed concern over the leak in the Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant in Karnataka with a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anant Kumar Hegde raising questions about the security in such vital installations.

Raising the issue during zero hour, Mr. Hegde claimed that despite the incident occurring on November 24, authorities have so far not filed an FIR.

He said while the authorities are downplaying the incident, it has raised a question mark over the security in the country’s nuclear power plants.

According to Mr. Hegde while the authorities said that only 55 employees of the plant were exposed to increased level of radiation, the local Superintendent of Police has put the figure as 92.

He also drew the attention of the House towards the death of two staff including a scientist who had died under suspicious circumstances sometime back and there was no inquiry into their death.
