Jat activists on Saturday blocked the Hisar-Delhi National Highway after police “forcibly” carried away five agitators, who were on a fast unto death demanding OBC status for the community.

Activists of All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) blocked the traffic for an hour in the morning to protest against the arrest of their members.

Ram Bhagat Malik, spokesman for AIJASS, alleged that despite their dharna being peaceful, about 200 policemen had arrived around 4 a.m. to forcibly carry away five agitators, who were on an indefinite fast before admitting them in hospital.

Mr. Malik said they would continue their struggle until the government accepted their demand for inclusion of Jats in the other backward classes (OBC) category. -- PTI
