Hong-Kong-based actor Jackie Chan has always maintained that children occupy a special place in his heart. True to his words, the martial arts expert, who is in the Capital these days to promote Chinese films and engage with Indian film-makers, visited a community project centre on Wednesday to interact with children and teach them self-defence techniques.
After receiving a traditional Indian-style welcome by children of Smile Foundation, Mr. Chan said: “Children have a special place for me and I believe the beauty of a country lies in its people, especially its children. Educating these kids is what we all wish for. It is our responsibility to get our future generation well-educated and well-equipped to lead a dignified life.”
Sharing details of his difficult childhood, the actor told the children how he realised his dreams. “You should study together, play together and dream together. You will definitely achieve your dream one day like I did.”
The actor emphasised the importance of learning self-defence techniques for girls. He even gave a demonstration of a few techniques and said they would help in building their self-confidence and self-esteem.
Children of Smile Foundation were ecstatic to be with a popular star. They demonstrated their love and fondness for Mr. Chan by performing dance routines. The star, who has admitted that he enjoys watching Bollywood dance performances , also joined the children.
Apart from sharing some light moments with them, the actor visited the education centre and saw facilities such as a computer room, classrooms and livelihood-training centre for women.
