The State government has informed the AP High Court that the posts of the Information Commissioners will be filled by February end.
Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi filed an affidavit to this effect on Wednesday in response to a query from a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar.
The Bench was hearing a batch of pleas filed by Right to Information activists who complained that though the RTI Act provided for multiple Information Commissioners in addition to the Chief Information Commissioner, the State presently had only Chief Information Commissioner.
They lamented that this would lead to a situation where the Act would become non-functional.
Meanwhile, sitting judges and advocates of the AP Court paid rich tributes to Justice Gangadhara Rao a retired judge, who passed away last week.
The meeting of the full court was held in the court hall of the Chief Justice where all the judges assembled.
Advocate General A. Sudershan Reddy recalled the path breaking judgments rendered by Justice Rao which had immense social impact.
Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur said that the high benchmark set by Justice Gangadhara Rao was worthy of emulation by all.
