The preliminary enquiry report of the Income-Tax department, Mumbai has revealed some irregularities in the investment pattern of BJP president Nitin Gadkari’s Purti Limited.
According to the report, the I-T department recorded the statement of 13 people from the alleged “shell companies” associated with Purti Limited.
“All the companies have been found to be shell companies,” says the report, adding that they were not involved in any genuine business and monetary transactions.
Ownership of these companies was taken over by other people, including some of those who were close aides of Mr. Gadkari, reliable sources from the I-T department said.
The report mentions one instance of Mr. Shivam Sharma whose statement has been recorded.
Mr. Sharma became director in 17 companies since July 2012, but he doesn't even remember the names of the companies.
Sources confirmed that the preliminary report had been sent to Nagpur and Pune.
The Nagpur I-T wing will continue with the probe. Once the Nagpur and Kolkata wings complete the probe, a detailed report will be sent to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
