IMA award for Sivakumar

The award instituted by the Indian Medical Association’s State branch for meritorious contributions by a public activist in the health sector has gone to Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar. In a statement here, the IMA said that Mr. Sivakumar was being given the award for implementing various welfare schemes, such as the distribution of free generic drugs in hospitals, the school health programme and the Janani Suraksha Yojana, all of which had given a new direction to the health sector.
