Accepting trade unions’ demands, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday increased the amount of compensation to be given to the family of State Roadways driver Narinder Singh, who was fatally knocked down by a bus he attempted to stop from plying on the first day of the nation wide strike.

Disclosing this, an official release said that Mr. Hooda had increased the compensation amount to Rs. 10-lakh and also consented to give a government job to Gurpreet Kaur, Singh’s daughter-in-law. Meanwhile, Singh’s was cremated in Ambala on Thursday. Apart from the leaders of various employees' organisations, the State’s Industries and Commerce Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala attended the funeral to offer condolences on the State government’s behalf. After meeting district administration officers, police, leaders of the employees’ organisations and relatives of the deceased, Mr. Surjewala said the State government had also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
