NEW DELHI: Historians Sumit Sarkar and Tanika Sarkar have decided to return their Rabindra Puraskars the highest honorary literary award given in West Bengal to register their protest over the police firing in Nandigram on Wednesday.

However, the award money that the two received will go to the Nandigram Relief Fund to help the affected families.

The two historians are among the various artists, authors and literary figures planning to return awards from the State Government as a mark of protest.

Talking to The Hindu Ms. Sarkar said she and her husband would be writing to the Paschimabanga Bangla Academy, Kolkata, to inform it about their decision.
