People who have been saving in the monthly income scheme (MIS) through post offices and the savings bank scheme have urged the Centre to restore interest rates and bonus payable to account holders.
According to subpostmaster (retd.) A.P. Pujar, a large number of investors put their money into MIS to ensure interest of 13 p.c.. However, the Government reduced the rate of interest to just 8.2 per cent and withdrew bonus. This had most affected low and medium income groups, especially in light of rising prices.
