NEW DELHI: Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Wednesday announced an allocation of Rs. 14,365 crore for the northeast for 2007-08. It was Rs. 12,041 crore in 2006-07.
The total budget allocation for the region had been culled from allocations under different Ministries/departments.
The higher allocation includes Rs. 1,380 crore for the Ministry of Development of Northeast Region (DONER).
Mr. Chidambaram said the new industrial policy for the region, with suitable fiscal incentives, would be in place before March 31.
