The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has asked the State government to remove certain clauses in the proposed Slum Development Bill as they were ‘harmful' to the interests of the poor.

The CPI (M) expressed concern that the draft Bill if passed in its present form would impose heavy burden on the slum-dwellers besides displacing them from their existing locations. The government should therefore remove provisions like eviction of the poor from the lands on which they were residing before introducing the Bill in the Assembly.
