Minister of State for Defence, Jitendra Singh on Thursday inaugurated Software Defined Radio (SDR) system at HAL’s Strategic Electronic Research Design Centre (SLRDC) here.

He lauded HAL for indigenously developing Softnet Radio for Airborne Communication and Net Centric Warfare and other hi-tech instruments.

Dr.R.L. Tyagi, Chairman, HAL, described SDR as the future of communication technologies. It will largely shape the net-centric warfare in the coming years. “The development of the system will reduce our dependence on foreign suppliers in the critical technology needs of the country.” He said that SDR was being integrated on airborne platforms.

SLRDC is a primary design centre of excellence for the development of state-of-the-art indigenous avionics for fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft like MIG 21, MIG 27, LCA, Jaguar, SU-30, MIG 29, Dornier, Cheetah, Chetak and ALH operated by the Indian defence forces, according to an official release here.
