Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday asked the Army and the law enforcing agencies to start joint operations against the group involved in the latest violence in North Cachar Hills district and to restore normality.

He asked Minister for Veterinary and Hill Areas Development Khor Sing Engti to camp in the trouble-torn area to instil confidence in the people.

Condemning the violent incidents, Mr. Gogoi said all-out efforts would be made to bring the situation under control and the culprits would be brought to book.

Compensation would be given to the next of kin of those killed and to those injured.

7 tribals killed

Seven Dimasa tribals, including four women, had been killed in a series of militants’ raids on three Dimasa villages of the hill district since April 28. Over 100 families were affected as their houses and granaries were set ablaze by the attackers.
