AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman and former Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Arjun Modhvadia has demanded a fresh CBI inquiry into the Godhra train carnage, the terrorist attack on the Akshardham temple and the murder of the former Minister of State for Home Haren Pandya.

He said he was raising the demand in view of the latest police disclosure of the involvement of “Hindu terrorists” in the Modasa and Malegaon bomb blasts in the minority-dominated areas during Ramzan on September 29 that killed six people and injured scores of others.

Divisive politics

Accusing the BJP and the Sangh Parivar of adopting divisive politics for the sake of power, Mr. Modhvadia said a fresh probe was necessary to clear doubts whether these incidents too were part of the Parivar’s conspiracy to win Hindu votes.

He alleged that the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Hindu Jagran Manch were also involved in attacks on Christians in 2002 in the tribal-dominated Dangs district to divide the people on religious lines, which forced the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to rush to the south Gujarat districts to give solace to the minorities.

He suspected that the same elements were behind the recent attacks on Christians in Karnataka and Orissa and said by playing the same role as the banned Students Islamic Movement of India, the ABVP and the Manch were behaving like a sister organisation of the SIMI.
