The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has asked party cadre to gear up for general elections which, he says, are likely to be held in 2013 itself going by the forecast made by Samajwadi party president Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Mr. Rao was speaking on Wednesday at the executive meeting of TRS which focussed on elections to Legislative Council.
He assured everyone at the meeting that the request of the delegates seeking postponement of blockade on the Hyderabad – Vijayawada highway on March 2 due to paucity of time would be taken up with the Telangana Joint Action Committee.
Mr. Rao met leaders of the seven districts where the Council elections are due separately.
Briefing presspersons later, senior party leader Naini Narasimha Reddy said that the TRS was of the view that the elections would be held this year. However, it all depended on Mr. Mulayam and Ms. Mayawati as they were the ‘saviours’ of the government.
Mr. Reddy said that it had been decided that senior leaders would be appointed as in-charges of districts that were going to poll.
He dared the Congress to hold elections to local bodies and said that victory in the cooperative polls was no achievement as they took place under the close supervision of Ministers.
