The Madurai Rural police arrested four persons on charges of selling housing plots earmarked for Adi Dravidars and seized ‘fake' pattas issued by them here on Tuesday.
The police realised that the patta document was ‘fake' on investigation and arrested the gang behind the crime. Following a complaint from K. Kannan (54) of Prasanna Colony, Avaniapuram, SP Asra Garg directed the police to register a case.
According to DSP A. Thangavel, a probe suggested that a suspended Village Administrative Officer N. Saktimohan (63) of Tirumangalam was the alleged brain behind it. Along with him, R. Balakrishnan (29), R. Srinivasan (38), and R. Peria Palani (65), sold 22 plots (each measuring three cents) in Sakkimangalam to 22 persons after receiving Rs 10,000 per head in 2009.
However, when the buyers checked the land after a couple of months, they realised that it was earmarked for Adi Dravidars.
