Four persons were killed and several others injured when a lorry laden with oxygen cylinders rammed into an under-construction Road-over-Bridge at Chinakondrupadu village in Prathipadu mandal on the NH5 on Monday.
Eyewitnesses said the driver, who was among the dead, had fallen asleep. Police identified three victims as P. Appalanaidu (45), P. Sattemma (40) and Althi Ramu (40). The identity of the fourth person could not be established immediately.
A group of 13 persons belonging to Bangarupeta in Kovvuru mandal had boarded the lorry at Nagabhatlavaripalem in Prakasam district at about 10 p.m. on Sunday.
According to the police, they were on their way to their native village to get enrolled for Aadhaar cards.
