Police and forest officials arrested four persons for hunting a Sambar in Bagidipalle forest area in Rajampet and seized venison from them on Monday.

The police said two Sambars ventured to a water hole from the nearby forests and when stray dogs chased them, one went back to the forest while the other ran towards Bagidipalle village.

Four persons – Ramesh, Venkatesh, Chengaiah and Subbarayudu – from the village, hunted and killed the Sambar and were sharing the venison when Mannur sub-inspector Narasimhulu, Penagalur SI Venkatarayudu and Rajampet deputy forest range officer Vijay Kumar raided and apprehended them.

The police have registered a case and investigating it further.
