Mukesh Kumar Sahni, son of the former Rashtriya Janata Dal Minister, Ramashray Sahni, was arrested in a vehicle theft case in Bihar’s Samastipur district late on Friday night, the police said.

Two of Mukesh’s ‘accomplices’ were also allegedly arrested and a case was filed under Section 413 (habitually dealing in stolen property), Section 414 (assisting in concealment of stolen property) and Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

Mukesh has been charge-sheeted in several theft cases and was jailed in various districts. “He is involved in many cases, all related to vehicle theft. Currently he was undergoing trial in seven cases,” Arvind Kumar Pal, SHO of the Ujairpur police station, Samastipur, told The Hindu .

Meanwhile, Mr. Sahni called the case against his son “a political conspiracy.”
