Anuradha Chaudhary, a former aide of Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh who quit the party after he joined hands with the Congress, attacked him on Thursday saying he had got a Cabinet berth at the cost of the farmers' welfare.

The newly-appointed Samajwadi Party general secretary said Mr. Singh no longer followed the ideology of his father Chaudhary Charan Singh. She criticised Mr. Singh for not opposing the Congress when it failed to table an amended land acquisition bill, which was supposed to help farmers.

Ms. Chaudhary asserted that SP and leader Mulayam Singh have fought for the farmers' cause. She asked voters to support Raj Pal Singh Tyagi, who is contesting from Muradnagar constituency. He recently joined SP after being ousted from the Cabinet by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati. — PTI
