Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi has said that the implementation of the historic Food Security Act will help farmers and the agricultural sector in the country.
Inaugurating a seminar on Food Security Act organised by the DCC here on Monday, he said that it is a historic act and the greatest social security measure passed by a country to provide food to all its citizens.
The Minister said that this is a fulfilment of the dreams of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who tried to end poverty in the country through her ‘Garibi Hatao’ (end poverty) campaign.
This dream of her was fulfilled due to the efforts by Congress president Sonia Gandhi who took personal interest in passing this bill and finding resources for it.
Mr. Ravi urged the Congressmen to see that the benefit of this Act reached its target group.
The meeting was presided over by District Congress Committee president C.V. Balachandran.
