Scores of women participated in the week-long lucky draw contest organised at Government Ranee’s Maternity Hospital here. The contest aimed at creating awareness of cancer cervix and cancer breast among women aged above 30 years.

“There was an overwhelming response to the contest and five women were selected in the lucky draw,” said V.C. Subash Gandhi, coordinator, Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project, which organised the contest.

After distributing prizes to the winners, he said that lack of awareness was the main problem in checking the incidence of the diseases.

Banumathy, nursing superintendent, spoke on the symptoms of the diseases and suggested measures to check them through an early diagnosis. Farida Begam, Rani, Muthulakshmy, Mala and Susheela got the prizes.
