The discovery of fire crackers in the hundi of the famous Varasiddhi Vinayaka temple at Kanipakkam near Chittoor has created flutter in the shrine.

Surveillance needed

The crackers were reportedly found when the temple staff was sorting out hundi collections on Wednesday.

The Executive Officer of the temple, Poornachandra Rao, said that it could be a prank played by some mischief mongers but agreed the episode has nonetheless sent a signal to the authorities to put in place a surveillance camera for close monitoring of the sensitive spot to prevent any untoward incident, as the influx in to the shrine has been increasingly tremendously in the last few years.
