Offering tributes to the Father of the nation may be once-a-year programme for many. But for a family residing at Kondapur in Medak district, it is a year-long programme without break.

The family of Madhupati Mahalingam Swamy has been offering prayers to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi since 1973 on every Friday. Now, his son Adivayya Swamy continues the ritual without fail. The family members felt it was their responsibility to offer prayers to Gandhi.

After cleaning the statue, vibhoothi, sandalwood powder, and vermillion would be applied on the prayer day. Floral tributes would be offered before breaking the coconut. A large number of villagers gather and participate in programmes on the days of national festivals like January 26, August 15 and October 2.
