The police seized a huge cache of explosives from a parked car at Perla under the Badiaduka police station limits in the district on Saturday. The haul, including nearly 200-kg ammonium nitrate, 500 aluminium detonators, and six rolls of wicks, was found in a car parked close to a petrol pump around 7 p.m.

Routine check

The seizure was made during a routine checking of vehicles in the township bordering Karnataka.

The car, bearing a Karnataka registration number and owned by Muhammed, a resident of Puthur in Karnataka, was impounded by the police.

The identity of the vehicle owner was established through the mobile phone recovered from the car. The police believe the explosives were smuggled from Karnataka. No arrests had been made in connection with the seizure, the police said.
