As part of World Tourism Day celebrations, Westin College of Hotel Management, in association with Vijayawada Hotel Owners’ Association, organised a string of activities in various institutions in the city on Tuesday.

“Celebrating the diversity, dynamism and distinctiveness of the occasion, we have lined up a series of events that will help students showcase their talent in varied activities,” said Westin College Principal P. Chandra Sekhar.

The Siddhartha College of Hotel Management on Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road was the venue for a ‘best chef’ competition. The participants were categorized in ‘Indian cuisine’ and ‘International cuisine’ groups.

The jury for the two events comprised Brijesh Thakur and Somnath Das, Executive Chefs of D.V. Manor and Taj Gateway, respectively.

A bar-tending competition attracted enthusiastic participation of students, at Indus College of Hotel Management in Currency Nagar. The jury members included Sumith Dube, F&B Manager, Fortune Murali Park and Shankar, Assistant Manager F&B, Taj Gateway.

Flower arrangement contest

A contest in flower arrangement was organised concurrently at Asian College of Hotel Management in Gunadala. Kamala Viswanadh, the lady with a green thumb and Sri Charan, Executive Housekeeper, hotel Fortune Murali Park, were the judges.

At Maris Stella College, meanwhile, students vied for top honours in essay writing, collage making, group discussion and a Power Point Presentation on ‘Water and Tourism, this year’s UN theme.

“The celebration will culminate in prize-distribution function on Wednesday at the Berm Park in Bhavanipuram.

A colourful cultural bonanza will unfold with students of various institutions participating in dance competitions in patriotic, Indian and traditional segments,” said Durga Prasad, Director of Westin College.Vice-Chancellor of Krishna University V. Venkaiah will be the chief guest while Special Chief Secretary, AP Tourism, Chandana Khan, will be the special guest, he said.
