A 45-year-old man, undergoing prolonged treatment for mysterious diseases suspected to have been caused by the aerial spraying of Endosulfan in the cashew estates of the Plantation Corporation of Kerala in the district died at a hospital in Mangalore.
Alex Monthera, a resident of Kajampadi near Perla, where the pesticide was used for years, died of serious skin-related ailments at the hospital on Wednesday night, sources here said.
Alex, a bachelor, who had been bedridden for the last few years lost weight as his health condition grew worse.
Reports here said no agency or officials provided him with any kind of medical and financial assistance.
Death of Alex was the first casualty this year due to the ill effects of the pesticide in the district.
