Keeping in tune with the trend of making the payment of wages to beneficiaries easier, the Sivaganga district administration has introduced Electronic Fund Management System (EFMS). In the first phase, all the 44 panchayats in Kallal block have been covered under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). All workers in the Kallal block have opened bank accounts and are getting their wages credited through them.
75 per cent covered
“We are in the process of extending the EFMS to all 11 other blocks in the district. In the case of about 75 per cent of the 2.44 lakh active workers, bank accounts have been opened and the remaining will be covered under the EFMS by March end,” says Kiran Gurrala, Additional Collector (Development) and Project Director of the MGNREGS.
In the next phase, the workers will be given smart cards and can draw the money from mobile ATMs in villages, he says. For the benefit of the workers, 810 cluster groups have been formed in the 445 panchayats.
