A large number of people and TRS activists joined the funeral procession of Neeraj Bharadwaj, a first year engineering student who committed suicide, here on Tuesday.
The youth ended his life on Monday allegedly disturbed by the delay by the Congress in taking a decision on separate Telangana state.
TRS leaders and MLAs, including T. Harish Rao, D. Vinay Bhaskar, M. Bikshapathi, Telangana political JAC chairman M. Kodandaram, former MLA M. Dharma Rao and several others joined the procession taken out from MGM Hospital to Telangana martyrs’ memorial. The people who joined the procession were emotionally charged and all through the procession raised slogans against the political parties, particularly the Congress, holding it responsible for the suicides in the region.
The protesters planned to take the dead body to the residences of Ministers to stage a demonstration, but the police prevailed over them. The police ensured smooth passage of the funeral procession. Armed police were posted at all public and private properties all along the route to prevent any untoward incident.
However, the irate crowds tried to create trouble soon after coming out of MGM Hospital forcing the police to use force. The protesters hurled stones at the hotel owned by TDP MP G. Sudha Rani at Nakkalgutta en route. e night.
Mr. Kodandaram, speaking to newsmen, held the Congress Ministers and MLAs responsible for the suicides in the region and demanded that the cases of abetment to suicides be booked against the Congress leaders.
