The Election Commission on Wednesday opened a call centre in the hill town for the benefit of voters and other stakeholders in Himachal Pradesh.

“People can register any complaint related to the State election process. One can raise a query, such as getting registered as voter, deletion of names from the electoral rolls, any electoral malpractice. Complaints or suggestions about the Commission offices can also be raised,” said State Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar.

The call centre will also ask for the name, address and contact number of the complainant to process complaints faster. A registration number will be provided to the complainant via SMS to help track the complaint or query.

The public can also register a complaint online by clicking on the public grievance redress related to elections on the official website of the State Chief Electoral Officer. Queries can be related to elections to the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, Vidhan Sabha and to the offices of the President and the Vice-President.

However, queries related to local urban bodies and Panchayat Raj institutions will not be processed.

The call centre has been made functional across the entire State through all service providers.

The call centre number is 1965. It can be accessed both from landlines and mobile phones. Those calling from outside the State need to prefix the Shimla STD code, officials said.
