NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday said the electoral setbacks in Punjab and Uttarakhand have relevance for the United Progressive Alliance Government and the Congress leadership and asked its leadership to draw proper lessons from the defeat and change the direction of its policies.

Reacting to the defeat of the Congress-run Governments in these two States, the party Polit Bureau said the outcome should be interpreted correctly. It said the loss could be attributed to the policies and performance of the State Governments, which have alienated the people.
