A teenaged wife was strangled to death and set on fire allegedly by her husband Saturday afternoon in Avalahalli police limits of Bangalore Rural.

Munilakshmi (19) had married Nandish (21) about 11 months ago after the couple fell in love.

However, police said, Nandish had been harassing her for dowry. Munilakshmi had gone to her parents’ house in Bommanhalli for the Ganesh festival. On Saturday, Nandish went there and persuaded her to come back with him.

On the way, the two fought over dowry and Nandish allegedly choked her to death, and set her on fire after dousing her body with petrol near the Mandur forest near Bommanahalli.

The murder came to light later in the evening when Munilakshmi’s cousin turned up at the couple’s house, found her missing and was told by Nandish that she had deserted him.

The suspicious cousin filed a police complaint. Following the interrogation, Nandish confessed to the crime and led the police to the charred body.
