People representing various political parties and organisations staged a demonstration here on Friday urging the Centre to come out with a national water policy and not to notify the final award of the Cauvery River Water Dispute Tribunal. Addressing protesters, district president of the Janata Dal (Secular) H.K. Javare Gowda said the Centre should not notify the final award of the tribunal until the State’s special leave petition challenging the award was heard by the Supreme Court.
“Our demand is for a national water policy. That is the only solution to the Cauvery dispute. If the Centre does not meet our demand, leaders cutting across party lines should join hands to protest”, he said. Activist Manjunath Datta was present.
