The Consumer Protection Council, Tamil Nadu, has appealed to the Transport Minister to ensure that the stages and bus fares are displayed prominently in all mofussil and town buses.
In a resolution adopted at its executive committee meeting here recently, with R.Natarajan, president in the chair, said the council have received complaints that fares higher than the announced rates consequent to the recent revision are being collected in buses and specific complaints have been submitted to the transport corporations.
The Transport Department should stop the unfair trade practice immediately, the resolution said. Welcoming the proposed move to hike fines for traffic offences, the council demanded that proper receipts be issued for the amount collected.
Referring to the power crisis in the State, the council suggested that shops and commercial establishments be directed to close down by 8 p.m. in towns and by 7.30 p.m. in other places.
