CHANDIGARH: Haryana Janhit Congress chief Kuldeep Bishnoi on Friday demanded that the molestation case against former Haryana Director General of Police S.P.S. Rathore should be “re-opened” so that the truth could come out as to who had shielded the controversial cop who was awarded six months imprisonment by a court last Monday.

Launching a direct attack on former Chief Minister and Indian National Lok Dal chief Om Parkash Chautala for “shifting the blame on Mr. Bhajan Lal and another former Chief Minister, the late Bansi Lal for shielding and favouring Rathore”, Mr. Bishnoi said that the INLD leader was levelling baseless allegations.

Expressing solidarity with the family of the minor girl, who later committed suicide in 1993---three years after the molestation, Mr. Bishnoi demanded strict action against those policemen who had harassed the family members of the girl by registering false cases against her brother.

Stating that the incident had happened during the tenure of the Lok Dal Government when the Devi Lal clan ruled through proxy Chief Minister Hukam Singh, he said that the then Government should have taken action against Mr. Rathore.

He further added that his father had taken over as Chief Minister one year after the incident. Mr. Bhajan Lal had initiated departmental enquiry against Mr. Rathore as there were allegations that he had “helped” hardened criminals to “escape from prison” at the behest of Mr. Chautala.

Mr. Bishnoi said it was also wrong to bring the name of late Bansi Lal in the “controversy” as he had become Chief Minister six years after the molestation case took place. Rather, it was Mr. Chautala who had elevated Mr. Rathore as the DGP of the entire State, he asserted.
