Communist Party of India state secretary D. Pandian on Sunday blamed the economic policies of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre for the fall in the value of Rupee. He told reporters here that India was importing coal despite having large quantities.
Of the 138 companies given permission to excavate coal, only four were involved in any mining activities.
He alleged that others remained only on paper. If all these companies had engaged in mining, India could have reduced coal imports.
Says missing files on coal block allocations pertained to fictional companies and called for an independent inquiry into the issue
