Senior IPS officer Aruna Bahuguna will be the new Special Director General of the CRPF, the country’s largest paramilitary force.

Ms. Bahuguna will be the first ever woman to occupy the post, which is second only to force’s chief in hierarchy.

The appointment orders for the 1979-batch Andhra Pradesh cadre officer, were issued on Thursday by the government.

Ms. Bahuguna, who is currently the Chairman of the AP police housing corporation, is expected to take charge next week. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has three sanctioned SDG posts, two of which have been lying vacant for close to four months.

The force was also the first central paramilitary force to have an independent women battalion in 1986. At present, in the officer rank, the force has four women DIGs and an equal number of commandants.
