NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Lok Jan Shakti Party (LJP) on Monday condemned the attack on the convoy of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya and Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilisers Ram Vilas Paswan in West Midnapur.
In a statement, the CPI(M) Polit Bureau noted that the Maoists had targeted the Chief Minister and killed a number of party activists in the recent past. “Firm action should be taken against these disruptive elements who are inimical to the interests of the people and the development of the State,” the Polit Bureau said. They pointed out that the Maoists were opposed to the setting up of a steel plant at Salboni.
The LJP has sent a letter to the Prime Minister demanding that Mr. Paswan’s security be upgraded to Z-plus category. It drew attention to the fact that Mr. Paswan’s security was downgraded after the UPA took office.
